How do 2,000+ CEOs and directors manage their business? According to Spencer Stuart’s latest report, aptly titled “Measure of Leadership: CEOs and Directors on Navigating Change,” over 2,000 CEOs & #Board directors have shared their insights on the pressing challenges & priorities they face in this era of unprecedented uncertainty. As always, I've done the reading & summarizing on your behalf, so you can save your most precious ✨asset, namely your time⏱: One of the most striking revelations 👀 from the report is the disparity❓in confidence levels between CEOs & their #Board members: While directors exhibit high confidence in their CEOs’ readiness to tackle change, CEOs are less assured about their boards’ preparedness 🕳️ This gap underscores the need for enhanced collaboration & communication at the highest levels of leadership ✍🏻 Business leaders are primarily focused on internal priorities such as company culture, talent attraction, & retention. These areas are seen as more controllable compared to external disruptions like geopolitical upheaval & the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). Interestingly, fewer than half of the leaders surveyed are actively addressing the disruptive potential of generative AI, & only a quarter are prioritizing geopolitical dynamics 🔎 This focus on internal factors is not without reason. As organizations grapple with changing workforce dynamics & the need for a resilient company culture, leaders are finding that these elements are crucial for long-term success. The ability to attract & retain top talent is particularly vital in a competitive market where skilled professionals are in high demand ⛓️💥 However, the report also reveals a disconnect between leaders and their employees on key issues. While 79% of employees express confidence in their leaders’ ability to navigate uncertainty, significant gaps remain in their perceptions of the organization’s responsiveness to new challenges 🧏🏻♂️ This highlights the importance of leaders not only communicating their strategies effectively but also listening👂🏼to their employees’ concerns ❤️🩹 & feedback By focusing on controllable internal factors and fostering open communication, CEOs and directors can build a strong 💪🏼 foundation for navigating the uncertainties ahead 👉🏼 In 2024, I am looking to leverage my 26 years of professional experience gained in some of the world's most admired companies by joining the board of a commercial organization.
